So... we signed up for this group that sounded like it might be a lot of fun... it's called "Harvest Hosts." For a fairly reasonable annual fee, you can stay at one of 2000 different farms, wineries, breweries, or other attractions free for a night... all they ask is that you buy something if they have a little country store, etc.
So, our first experience was last night, staying at the "Diamond B Horse Motel" in York, NE... about 6 miles out of town. It was breathtaking countryside, and a beautiful property. They cater to people traveling with horses, and provide the horses a place to be boarded, fed, etc. while on the road.
We pulled in, got situated, and a lady who parked next to us in a horse trailer walked over and introduced herself as "Peggy." She and her husband were moving their ranch from Texas to Montana... 3 horses at a time. Meet Penny (the buckskin) and Gus (the gray). Very friendly and curious.
As we sat outside, enjoying the sunset, several more travelers pulled in, and pretty soon 6 of us were sitting together in front of our 5th wheel, laughing, talking, and really enjoying each other's company.
Exactly what I have been craving for so long.
We got up fairly early this morning, and I took the dogs for a walk down the country road to this property, and they were beyond joyful... exploring, smelling, playing with each other... it was very gratifying to watch. I had a hard time wanting to leave.
What a wonderful turn of events for you two! I can't wait to read the next 'chapter' of your adventures! Safe travels~
